For Sun Microsystems' incentive extravaganza, the client chose the Metro Theatre in downtown Sydney, Australia for its
business session. What to do with this challenging space, since it was clearly not a ballroom? "Club SunSoft," the
program name, provided the inspiration. We created a contemporary urban underground nightclub complete with rafters,
steam pipes, ductwork and infrastructure elements typical of a commercial building basement. It proved a perfect fit
for 'Club Sunsoft'.
For the show, with some 200 sales executives in attendance, we created a mock-rock group called SunKiss, inspired by Kiss,
to play on the name of Sun Micro. In outrageous make-up, the executives completed the illusion by dressing as the rockers,
and a key sales executive was done up as notorious lead singer Gene Simmons. With custom lyrics to a popular Kiss hit,
the song was pre-recorded and lip-synched live by corporate executives. The offbeat, over-the-top production drew rave
evaluations from Sun leaders and the sales force. Fortunately, the mock band did not quit their day jobs.
